The Fair Housing Act
The federal Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, or disability. State and local laws may add further protected classes. These protections cover every part of the housing process, including advertising, showings, pricing, and negotiation.
